Descripcion: IES BUENOS AIRES SYMPOSIUM JOHN HUDSON Director (IES Abroad Buenos Aires) The first IES Buenos Aires Symposium has been an opportunity for our students to present what they have learned while studying abroad. This first experience showcased a fascinating eclectic combination of topics that included the historical tension between the city and the countryside in Argentina, the impact that the dictatorship-era detention centers still have on the country today, the efforts of Greenpeace to tackle local environmental issues, particular issues affecting businesses here as well as interesting perspectives on how students view daily life in a country in many ways different and alike from their native USA. The degree to which our students took the preparation for this event seriously, the attentive silence during the presentations and the overall feedback afterwards is proof of its success. I would like to congratulate and thank all those students, faculty and staff that contributed to making this a landmark event that will now become a regular one every semester.
